Fogwalk Privacy Policy

Fogwalk is a walking app: it tracks where you walk, clears a “fog of war” map as you go, and lets you compare progress with friends on a leaderboard. This page explains what information Fogwalk collects, why, and what control you have over it.

Information Fogwalk collects

Fogwalk works without an account. What it collects depends on whether you sign in.

• Location. Fogwalk uses precise GPS location to record your walking route, clear the fog on your map, and calculate distance, area covered, and (if you enable background tracking) to keep a walk running while your phone is locked. Location is only recorded while a walk is active.
• Walk and activity data. Distance, step count, walk duration, and the area of fog you've cleared, derived from the location and motion data above.
• Device identifier. If you never sign in, Fogwalk assigns your device an anonymous ID so your stats and leaderboard position can persist between sessions. This ID isn't tied to your name or email unless you later create an account.
• Account information. If you sign up, Fogwalk stores your email address and a username (either one you choose, or a random one assigned at signup that you can change anytime). If you use Sign in with Apple, Fogwalk receives only what Apple shares — your email, or Apple's private relay address if you choose to hide it — and never sees your Apple password.
• Friends. If you add friends in the app, Fogwalk stores that relationship (who you've requested, accepted, or connected with) so it can show a friends-only leaderboard.

Fogwalk does not collect contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or advertising identifiers, and does not use any of the above for advertising or tracking across other apps or websites.

How this information is used

• To draw your fog map and calculate your walking stats.
• To keep your progress and stats synced if you use more than one device.
• To show leaderboards (global, or friends-only if you've added friends).
• To send account-related email — verifying your address, or a password reset link you requested.
• To keep a Live Activity / Dynamic Island updated with your in-progress walk, and to notify you when a walk uncovers a treasure box.

How this information is shared

Fogwalk does not sell your information. It's shared only with the service providers that make the app work, and only as needed to provide the app:

• Vercel and Neon — host the Fogwalk server and database.
• Resend — delivers verification and password-reset emails.
• Apple — handles Sign in with Apple; Fogwalk never sees your Apple account password.

Other Fogwalk users can see your username, your walking stats, and your leaderboard position (on the global leaderboard, or the friends leaderboard if they're your friend). Your email address is never shown to other users.

How long information is kept

Walk history and stats are kept as long as your account (or anonymous device) is active. Uncovered treasure boxes reset daily. If you delete your account, your account record, email, and friend relationships are deleted; aggregated stats that can't be tied back to you may be retained for leaderboard integrity.

Your choices

• Location access can be turned off or limited at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Fogwalk. Turning it off will stop Fogwalk from being able to track walks.
• Notifications (for treasure boxes and friend activity) can be disabled in iOS Settings → Notifications → Fogwalk.
• Username can be changed anytime from Profile in the app.
• Account and data deletion: email mackjor@gmail.com from the address on your account and we'll delete your account and associated data.

Children's privacy

Fogwalk is not directed at children under 13, and knowingly does not collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the “last updated” date at the top of this page will change accordingly.
